Crimper

Overview

The Crimper is designed to close cream-filled product ropes and separate them into individual pillow-shaped pieces. Opposing crimp rollers seal the filling inside the outer product while forming the separation between each pillow.

The Frazer-Nash Crimper uses servo-controlled rollers and conveyor, allowing product length to be adjusted without changing rollers or other mechanical equipment. This gives operators flexible control of pillow size within a production run.

Key Benefits

Variable-Length Servo Crimping

Key figure: Length changes without roller changes

The servo-driven roller assembly allows crimp length to be varied from the controls without changing the crimp rollers or other hardware.

Adjustable Crimp Gap

Key figure: Independent roller adjustment

Simple roller adjustment sets the correct closing gap to seal the rope and produce cleanly separated pillows.

Modular Hygienic Design

Key figure: Fully openable for cleaning

The modular assembly opens and separates to provide clear access for cleaning, inspection and routine maintenance.

Automatic Ejection of Pillows

Key figure: No supplementary system required to prevent adhesion

The speed of operation eliminates the need to use air to ensure release of product.

Crimp length is controlled through the relationship between conveyor speed and crimp-roller speed.

Conveyor and servo-driven rollers provide coordinated, repeatable product spacing.

Crimp length can be changed during the same production run from the machine controls.

Adjustable roller separation sets the crimping gap for different rope sizes and product textures.

The rollers can be opened for start-up, rope feeding, cleaning and blockage removal.

The modular construction provides full access to product-contact areas for maintenance and hygiene checks.

Mobile Modular System

Crimp length is controlled automatically by adjusting the interplay between conveyor speed and servo driven crimp rollers.

Roller timing is synchronised with belt speed, so the selected pillow length remains consistent.

perators select the required length at the controls without changing rollers or carrying out manual calculations.

Pillow length may be changed during the same product run; adjustments can be made quickly from the control system without replacing mechanical components.

This supports mixed-length production, product trials and rapid change between pack formats.

The distance between the crimp rollers can be adjusted to suit the rope diameter and product consistency.

Correct gap seals the filling inside the outer product while creating a clean separation between pillows.

Simple adjustment gives operators control without changing the roller profile or complete assembly.

The Crimper opens and rollers separate during start-up, allowing extrusion ropes to be fed straight through until the product is approved.

If a blockage occurs, the rollers can be separated, the ropes re-fed and production restarted with minimum downtime.

The Crimper is a self-contained, mobile equipment, which can be moved away from the line to a separate area for washdown and sanitation.

It opens and separates to provide full access for product removal, cleaning and maintenance.

How it Works

The Crimper combines a servo-driven roller set with infeed conveyor. The coordinated speeds determine the crimp pitch and finished pillow length while refined adjustment of roller spacing provides the pressure needed to close the filled rope.

At start-up, the rollers are held apart and the continuous product ropes are fed through to waste. Once the extrusion ropes are stable and approved, the rollers close, the ropes are separated from the start-up waste and production crimping begins.

If a blockage occurs, the roller assembly can be opened to allow the affected product to be removed and the ropes fed back through; the Crimper can then be closed and restarted quickly.
